Let’s chat party bags and favours – for or against?
Personally, we love giving them, but sometimes feel a bit “here we go again” when we receive them. Is it the lollies that the kids just don’t need, or might not be suitable for their age? Or the plastic toys that will be in the bin as soon as you can do a sneaky disposal? Or maybe you feel like “why is my child receiving a gift when it’s another child’s birthday?”.
Despite the different mum opinions, I think we all have to agree it’s a great feeling sending the little party goers off with a small gift to say ‘thank you’ for coming to the party, true? So, we’ve come up with some cost-effective, easy to source party bag alternatives that will please the kiddos and parents alike.
1. Paint your own cookie
Deliciously entertaining. Painting your own cookie is an activity to keep kids busy after the party, or a great activity to incorporate at the party (and one less game to plan!)
Pretty Sugar Co are a Sydney-based company who ship Australia-wide, taking the hassle out of visiting stores and battling shopping centres (those with more than one child, can we get an, AMEN!?). Kits come with 2 or 3 cookies, safe edible paint palette, food safe brush, sprinkles and choice of plenty of designs to cover all sorts of party themes.
Price per item: 2 cookies $13, 3 cookies $16
Shipping: $9.95 Australia wide or alternatively free pick up from 2121, NSW (or free delivery 10km)
2. Jumbo Bubble Wands
Have you ever known a toddler to not be obsessed with bubbles? At fifty cents apiece from Kmart, the jumbo bubble wands will be a hit, every time. Make it a bit cute with a little note that says “thank you for popping in to help me celebrate”.

3. Chalk eggs & plaster packs
Long-lasting, easy for little hands to use and hours of fun for our little chickens! Might I add, super appropriate for March/April babies this year? And for those born in other months, Plaster Kids do other great designs like fairies, dinosaurs, Lego, mermaids, superheroes… the list goes on! Did we mention, their main gig is plaster paint packs?
Super cute characters individually wrapped with a paintbrush and paint pots – some might say the legends at Plaster Kids have done you a favour

Seedling pots are an excellent environmental option that will keep your little one entertained for weeks as they care for it and watch it grow. Visit Bunnings for a bulk pack of paper seedling pots, a bag of potting mix and some seeds or a small plant to separate and plant individually, for under $5 per child (snag included!).
